RM33E 3:3 Rack UPS FAQ

Answers about RM33E three-phase input / three-phase output rack architecture, 10–50 kVA capacity, PF 1.0 output, parallel operation, external battery configurations and remote monitoring.

What does RM33E mean?
RM33E is a 3:3 online three-phase rack UPS, meaning it accepts three-phase input and delivers regulated three-phase output. The 10–50 kVA family is designed for data centers, network rooms, industrial control and critical infrastructure applications requiring 10–50 kVA / kW at PF 1.0. The series uses a compact 19-inch rack-mount architecture, subject to rack depth, load rating, airflow and installation-clearance requirements.
What is the difference between RM33E and TM33E?
RM33E and TM33E are both 3:3 online double-conversion three-phase UPS platforms with PF 1.0 output. RM33E is a high-density rack platform, using a 3U chassis for 10–30 kVA and a 4U chassis for 40–50 kVA. TM33E is a floor-standing tower platform. Choose RM33E when rack density is the priority; choose TM33E 10–40 kVA or TM33E 50–200 kVA when a floor-standing tower installation is preferred, according to the required capacity.
What capacities and rack sizes are available for RM33E?
RM33E is available in 10, 15, 20, 30, 40 and 50 kVA models. The 10–30 kVA models use a 3U chassis, while the 40–50 kVA models use a 4U chassis. With an approved battery-string configuration supporting full rated output, the corresponding usable capacity is 10, 15, 20, 30, 40 and 50 kW at PF 1.0. All RM33E models are batteryless UPS units designed for external VRLA battery systems.
Can RM33E run on a generator?
Yes. RM33E supports a wide input-voltage range and 40–70 Hz input-frequency tolerance, making it suitable for properly engineered generator-backed applications. Input PF ≥0.99 and input THDi ≤3% at linear load help reduce upstream current demand and harmonic loading. Generator capacity, voltage regulation, frequency stability, load-step response and UPS charging current must be checked during system sizing. DC cold start allows startup from the battery system when utility power is unavailable.
Can RM33E be paralleled for redundancy?
Yes. Selected RM33E configurations support direct parallel operation for capacity expansion or N+X redundancy: up to four matching units for 10–30 kVA models and up to six matching units for 40–50 kVA models. Approved parallel accessories, compatible firmware, coordinated cabling and correct commissioning are required. Selected 40–50 kVA models also provide an LBS interface for synchronization between independent UPS systems in approved dual-bus architectures.
What battery options are available for RM33E?
RM33E is a batteryless UPS platform designed for external VRLA battery strings. The supported battery quantity is 30–50 × 12 V blocks, corresponding to a nominal split DC bus of approximately ±180 to ±300 Vdc. Available output depends on battery quantity: 30 batteries derate output to PF 0.8, 32–34 batteries to PF 0.9, and 36–50 batteries give full PF 1.0 output. Battery capacity, cabinet arrangement, protection and charger settings are selected according to UPS rating, connected load and target backup time.
What monitoring options does RM33E support?
Depending on model and configuration, RM33E supports local and remote communication through USB, RS-232, RS-485, dry contacts, EPO / REPO and intelligent communication slots. An optional compatible SNMP card provides network monitoring, web access, event alerts and supported NMS or building-management integration. Relay-card availability and intelligent-slot configuration differ between the 10–30 kVA and 40–50 kVA platforms. A battery-temperature sensor may be used for temperature-compensated charging by approved configuration, and local operating information is available through the LCD and status indicators.
What is LBS synchronization on RM33E?
LBS, or Load Bus Synchronization, is available on selected RM33E 40–50 kVA models. It synchronizes the outputs of independent UPS systems for approved dual-bus architectures, including systems supplying static transfer switches. LBS does not place the UPS units in normal parallel operation; it coordinates output phase and frequency between separate power paths. Availability and system design must be confirmed for the project.
Which applications are RM33E not recommended for?
RM33E is not the correct choice when the protected load requires single-phase output. For three-phase input with single-phase output, use RM31E for 6–10 kVA rack applications or TM31E for 10–20 kVA tower applications. Where only single-phase input is available, use an appropriate TM11E or RM11E single-phase online UPS. For floor-standing 3:3 installations, use TM33E 10–40 kVA or TM33E 50–200 kVA according to the required capacity. Medical, isolation-specific, regenerative, motor-drive or high-inrush applications must be reviewed against the project’s electrical, grounding, isolation and certification requirements.
Does RM33E provide zero transfer time?
Yes. In online double-conversion operation, RM33E provides 0 ms transfer time between online and battery operation. Transfer to bypass depends on bypass availability, synchronization and operating conditions.
Will RM33E fit any 19-inch rack?
No. Although RM33E uses a 19-inch rack format, rack depth, rail compatibility, cabinet load rating, airflow, cable bend radius and service clearance must be checked for the selected 3U or 4U model.
