TM31E 3:1 Online Tower UPS 10–20 kVA

TM31E is an online double-conversion VFI tower UPS, available in 10, 15 and 20 kVA ratings, for sites with three-phase utility input and single-phase critical loads. It delivers PF 1.0 regulated pure sine-wave output with DSP digital control, wide input operating tolerance, generator-compatible operation by configuration and external battery options for extended runtime, and is designed in accordance with applicable IEC/EN 62040 safety, performance and EMC requirements.

3-Phase In / 1-Phase Out PF 1.0 Output 0 ms Transfer Time Parallel up to 4 Units External Battery Runtime

Engineered for 3:1 Critical Power

Three-phase input and single-phase output online UPS architecture for sites with a three-phase utility supply and protected single-phase IT, telecom, security or control loads.

3-Phase In / 1-Phase Out

Accepts 380 / 400 / 415 Vac three-phase input and delivers 220 / 230 / 240 Vac single-phase output for critical loads supplied from a three-phase building network. TM31E supports both 3:1 and 1:1 operation by configuration.

Online Double-Conversion VFI

True online double-conversion architecture with IGBT power conversion and DSP digital control provides regulated pure sine-wave output and 0 ms transfer time between online and battery operation for sensitive single-phase critical loads.

PF 1.0 Output & Low Input Distortion

Output PF 1.0 provides full usable kW capacity. Active input power-factor correction delivers input PF up to 0.99 and input THDi as low as 3% at linear load under rated operating conditions, helping reduce upstream current demand and electrical loading.

Wide Input Operating Range

Three-phase input 208–478 Vac and single-phase input 120–276 Vac, with 40–70 Hz auto-sensing frequency, help maintain online operation during utility fluctuations and support generator-fed applications, subject to generator sizing, voltage regulation and frequency stability. Cold-start operation allows the UPS to start from battery when AC input is unavailable.

Parallel up to 4 Units

Selected TM31E configurations support parallel operation of up to four units for capacity expansion or N+X redundancy, subject to the approved model, parallel accessories and project design.

Flexible Runtime & Monitoring

Internal-battery and long-runtime configurations are available by model, with compatible external battery cabinets extending backup time by connected load and required runtime. Communication and control interfaces include RS-232, RS-485, USB, EPO, dry contacts and optional SNMP or relay cards by configuration.

TM31E 3:1 UPS Frequently Asked Questions

Answers about TM31E three-phase input and single-phase output architecture, 10–20 kVA ratings, PF 1.0 output, parallel operation, battery configurations and monitoring options.

What does TM31E mean?
TM31E is a 3:1 online UPS, meaning it accepts three-phase AC input and delivers protected single-phase output. It is designed for sites with three-phase electrical distribution but single-phase critical loads such as server racks, telecom equipment, security systems, industrial-control panels and IT infrastructure.
What is the difference between TM31E and TM33E?
TM31E is a three-phase input and single-phase output UPS, commonly described as a 3:1 UPS. It is used where the site has three-phase distribution but the protected load requires 220 / 230 / 240 Vac single-phase power. TM33E is a three-phase input and three-phase output UPS, commonly described as a 3:3 UPS, for loads requiring full three-phase output. Choose TM31E for single-phase critical loads and TM33E for three-phase critical loads.
What capacities are available for TM31E?
TM31E is available in 10, 15 and 20 kVA ratings. With PF 1.0 output, the corresponding rated active-power capacities are up to 10, 15 and 20 kW. Internal-battery and long-runtime versions are available by model and configuration. Long-runtime versions support compatible external battery cabinets sized according to load and required backup time.
Can TM31E run on a generator?
TM31E can support generator-fed applications due to its wide input operating range, active input power-factor correction and broad frequency tolerance. Generator capacity, voltage regulation, frequency stability, load step response and UPS charging current must be checked during project sizing.
Can TM31E be paralleled for redundancy?
Selected TM31E configurations support parallel operation of up to four units for capacity expansion or N+X redundancy. Parallel operation requires matching UPS ratings, approved parallel accessories, compatible firmware and commissioning according to the installation procedure.
What monitoring options does TM31E support?
Depending on model and configuration, TM31E provides USB, RS-232, RS-485 / Modbus RTU, dry-contact and intelligent communication slots, with EPO / REPO as a safety-shutdown interface. The optional TM550 SNMP card provides network monitoring, web access, event notifications and supported network-management integration; compatible relay cards provide dry-contact alarm signalling, and a battery temperature sensor and parallel communication cable are available by configuration.
What battery runtime options are available for TM31E?
S versions are internal-battery configurations, while L versions provide configurable long-runtime battery arrangements for compatible external battery systems. Battery quantity and DC voltage vary by rating and configuration. Compatible external VRLA cabinets are available in 40-battery or 80-battery configurations, with charging capacity and runtime selected according to the UPS model, connected load and backup-time target.
Does TM31E provide 0 ms transfer time?
Yes. In online double-conversion operation, TM31E provides 0 ms transfer time between normal online operation and battery operation. Transfer to bypass depends on synchronization, bypass availability and operating conditions.
Which applications are not suitable for TM31E?
TM31E is not the correct choice when the protected load requires three-phase output. For three-phase input and three-phase output applications, select a suitable TM33E, RM33E or TM33-ET platform according to capacity, form factor and project requirements. For sites with only single-phase input, consider TM11E or RM11E instead. Medical, isolation-transformer, high-inrush or specialist industrial applications require separate review against load, grounding, leakage-current, certification and environmental requirements.
